CAVERN OF AGIA SOFIA AT MYLOPOTAMOS
It lies in the western coasts of the island in the bight Kokala, 50 metres above the sea. In 1955 the cavern was explored in detail and was charted with the expenses of Anna Petrochelos (in the memory of her spouse Ioannis Petrochelos who both were interested). In the lobby of the cavern we meet the holy of Agia Sofia where there is an iconostasis with hagiographies of the 18th century. Moving farther in the cavern we contemplate decors from stalactites and stalagmites and in several points pillars. Big chambers the one come after the other. The total length is roughly 100 metres. The average temperature at the month of July is 16°C and humidity is 73%. The cavern is connected to Mylopotamos by asphalt roadway that you can take next to the venetian settlement "Kato Chora".
CAVERN OF AGIA SOFIA KALAMOS

CAVERN, AGIA SOFIAOn the street of Kalamos to Kapsali, at the turn going to the village Caves. There is a majestic green - clad gully, moving farther, you will see a small cave with the temple of Agia Sofia .

Very romantic point especially in the winter that water passes through the gully.

CAVERN OF CHOUSTI

It is located in Diakofti. The archaeologists, in recent excavations, discovered traces from 3800 B.C. So the island was populated since then. Also Hellenistic, Romanian and others testify the multiannual presence and multiple use of the cavern. The entry is sculpted on the stone and leads into the cavern by stairs from the roof. Various alcoves in the Stone testify that the cavern functioned also as holy.
